Curriculum vitae
Name: Adam Wierzbicki
Education:
1998 – 2003
PhD studies at the Warsaw
University of Technology, department of Electronics and Information Technology,
Institute of Telecommunications, under the tutorship of professor Józef Lubacz.
I have presented a PhD thesis titled "Content distribution and streaming
media communication on the Internet" and have received a PhD degree in
June, 2003.
1992 – 1998
Studies at Warsaw University,
department of Mathematics, Informatics and Mechanics, simultaneously majoring
in Mathematics and Informatics. In 1997, I have received a Masters degree in
Informatics. The Master’s thesis has received a grade of very good. In 1998, I
have received a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics.
Selected professional experiences:
Since September, 2005 I am
Vice-Dean of the Department of Informatics at PJIIT, responsible for the
management of the didactic process and of scientific research.
Since 2006, I am a team member of
a European 6th Framework Program project “eGov-Bus”. The project
aims to develop a dynamically adaptable information system supporting life
events experienced by the citizen or business serviced by European government
organizations. In the project, I am developing a distributed, scalable access
control mechanism.
In October, 2005, I have founded a
new bachelor’s specialization at PJIIT: Networks of Mobile Devices. The
specialization teaches student’s wireless networks (both LAN and cellular) with
a practical emphasis on programming of applications for mobile phones, wireless
network configuration and security. The specialization cooperates with two
companies, Psiloc and Ericsson Poland, in the didactic process. The cooperation
has already resulted cooperative grant applications.
From April, 2003 till September,
2005 I have work part-time for Suntech, a small company that specializes in
telecommunications software, as a designer of information systems for telecom
operators. Among others, I have worked on the following projects: a network
design and inventory system for a large telecom operator, a Web-based customer
relationship management system, a billing system for a GSM operator and a
groupware system for programmers at Suntech.
Since October, 2002 I have been employed
at the Polish-Japanese Institute of Information Technology (PJIIT) as assistant
professor in the department of Computer Networks. I lecture on basic and
advanced computer networks and lead a Master’s seminar.
Research work (Natlab laboratory,
Holland, Philips Research, 01-06.2000) The research has concerned performance
and quality of service of streaming media communications (audio and video over
RTSP/RTP). I have designed new methods of synchronizing streams, that have used
replication of information on proxy-servers in the Internet.
Research work (Technical
University of Eindhoven, Holland, 01-03.1999)
I have investigated statistical properties of HTTP traffic. I have designed an
algorithm for forecasting the popularity of Web objects and a statistical model
of requests received by a Web server.
Research work (Warsaw University,
1998) I have been a co-author of the "Survey of the Polish WWW", the
first demographic survey in Poland that has used the Web. The results of that
research have been widely quoted in Poland.
Employment (Iterdisciplinary
Modeling Center, Warsaw University (ICM UW), 08.1996-07.1999) I was employed as
a LAN administrator (DNS, SMTP, NIS, NFS services), database and Web portal
administrator. I have worked on Solaris, Irix (SGI), and Unicos (Cray).
